Music

I need new music. When I run, I like to listen to new tunes that I haven't heard before---even if it's not music that I particularly like, I still focus more, listening to words and interesting beats. I recently received some new Kanye stuff and the Black Eyed Peas album. There are about 5 really good songs on the Kanye album and almost all of the BEP disc kicks booty. I'm thinking about grabbing some Rob Thomas and maybe some older hits, like TLC. I keep a pen and paper in my car so that I can jot down songs or ideas for music when I hear them on the radio.

Wow. This is turning out to be a boring post.

Did 12 miles on Sunday. I went back to my post about the shitty run from a couple weeks ago and tried to do some troubleshooting. Here's what I did for this run:

1. bagel with butter (real butter) prior to run (about 30-45 min. prior)
2. bottle of Gatorade in water belt
3. left at approx 8:00-ish am

Lo-and-behold, the run was fine. (I did run on the trail...)The only issue that I was feeling was a bit of that damn shoulder/neck/back of the head thing that happens. My back wasn't terribly sore and I was even able to shower up, and head out for a day of shopping with my sister-in-law directly after. Granted, my the end of the afternoon, I was sitting on the display stands in stores because my legs were sore.....

So:
No more dairy before a run.
Longs must happen 8:00a or before
Gatorade is a godsend and must be included---always!

I'm going to pick up some gummy bears for this Saturday's long and try those, too. My goal is 10-12 road miles and then next weekend, I'll attempt the 16-miler again.... grrrrrr!

Hey -- I found your blog on pinkdummbells.com and I like what I see! I'm training for a half marathon with a girlfriend who's running the NYC marathon! We did 12 hard miles this morning and I feel great mentally. My legs, on the other hand, feel a little beat up, but that's to be expected, right?

I LOVE finding new songs to listen to when I run. Thought I'd pass on some of my current favorites:

Stitched Up -- Herbie Hancock & John Mayer
On the Border -- The Eagles (OLD song)
    Streetcorner Symphony -- Rob Thomas
    Shoop -- Salt-N-Pepa (another oldie)
    Yeah! -- Usher
Why Didn't You Call Me -- Macy Gray
Where are we Runnin? -- Lenny Kravitz
Stay With Me -- Rod Stewart and Faces
    Where It's At -- Beck

You can bet I'll be back to visit soon!

I'm always looking for different music as well. I like just about all genre's of music, so I tend to forget about a lot of great workout/cardio music. One song that I just added to the Ipod was "Hot For Teacher" by Van Halen. This is different for me becaue I am not really into Van Halen, however that particular song has a really fast beat and I can bust out a sprint when that song comes on. There are several others but that's my newest add.
